Will Rogers on “Bad News Congress”

Well, there is bad news for the country this morning. There is no earthquake anywhere, no new war, no flood, no pestilence, no new inflation, no new budget that’s not balanced, no new Morgan preferred list. It’s not any of those terrible things you might think it is, it’s worse. It’s worse than all of those combined. Aw, gee, I just hate to tell you. I know it will break your heart, but I am going to tell it if it kills us all. Congress didn’t adjourn. BEVERLY HILLS, Cal., June 11.Will Rogers witnessed natural disasters, such as the dust bowl of the 1930. He survived the financial turmoil of the Stock Market crash of 1929. While these events had a significant and profound impact on the United States, Will Rogers warns us of another bit of bad news: Congress! Has anything changed?

As if the recent health care earthquake wasn’t bad enough, we find out that the tsunami stimulus is destroying everything in it’s path. Behind that, the EPA is making sure that the destruction is complete and permanent.

Will Rogers was big on common sense. I think most people live their lives according to simple common sense principles. But when it comes to the workings of Congress, Will Rogers and most of us are left scratching our heads!

For example, how can anyone vote for a bill that they haven’t read? In a now famous quote, the former House Speaker said: “We need to pass the bill so we can find out what’s in it.” And now, the President wants Congress to pass his jobs bill that nobody has seen! Somebody hitched the horse up backwards!

I think things are even worse today than when Will Rogers published this quote. Sure, it breaks our hearts to learn that Congress is up to mischief, but when the President interferes with NFL pre-game activities, we enter the depths of despair.

The one last escape from reality, NFL Football, has been hijacked by politics! Any politician that messes with football better start looking for another job.

Image Info: The image of Rogers is from his 1921 silent film Guile of Women. Rogers plays a Swede named Yal who travels with a friend to America to seek his fortune. After misfortunes in love and business, his girlfriend finally arrives from Sweden.

The image was taken directly from pictures at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum archive. I apologize for the quality of the image, but this is exactly what the 1920s photo looked like when I scanned it. In the hundreds of images contained in this iPhone application, I wanted to share as many different Will Rogers photos as possible from as wide a variety of times and situations – movies, cowboy, vaudeville, with famous people, and family scenes.

Will Rogers is a man worth remembering, and quoting. His wit, humor and insight into life will amaze and astonish you. His life will inspire you. Watch for new blog posts from my Will Rogers quotes collection.
